Conservatives apparently have trouble admitting to mistakes without taking underhanded shots at liberals to save themselves from any sense of inferiority. For example, in response to Dreher's pretty honest admissions, a reader writes:
"All said, the war was the right thing to do. Think hard about the alternatives, there were no easy outs."
and...
"I am ready to agree to this and then Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid open their mouths and destroy the illusion (and that takes real talent given the foriegn policy bungling of Cheney in Charge)."
Of course, it is absolutely ridiculous to really think Pelosi or Reid are saying worse things than Cheney et al. But whatever some conservatives may learn, they will never learn how to stop hating liberals in the most visceral, purposeless way.
And for God's sake, if you really think the war was a horrible disaster, how in the world was it "the right thing to do"? It wasn't. But this is a lie certain folks on the right are going to be telling themselves for some time to come.
